Memorial Weekend

Well summer has officially started and we had an amazing weekend to kick it off.  We spent the weekend at Sunset Resort on Ash River Trail up in Orr, MN.  Marissa's in-laws are seasonal campers up there and when I mentioned to my sister that we were thinking of trying to find a cabin to rent for the long holiday weekend she immediately made a call.  Her Father-in-Law talked to the owners and got us a great deal. They only had one cabin left, it was a very outdated cabin (next on their list for a remodel) and they don't rent it out very often just for that fact.  I didn't care if it was outdated, we just needed a roof over our heads and indoor plumbing so we said we would take it!  Friday after work we loaded up the truck and the boat with clothes, food, life jackets, fishing poles, camping chairs, blankets, pillows and everything else you can think of (yah, I over packed)!  The three boys jumped in the backseat of the truck (Clint's Nephew Austin came with us) and off we went.  In just 6 short hours later we arrived at the cabin, unpacked a little, got a few poles ready for fishing and it was off to dreamland for all of us.  The next couple days included early morning fishing trips for the boys (sleeping in for Mason and me), lots of changes of clothes because of the constant drizzle, camp fires, afternoons out on the water trying to reel in the big one, plenty of fishing from the dock whenever we were on land and lots of amazing memories being made!

My boys have been fishing before but never seemed to last very long.  That all seemed to change with this trip.  Colton quickly decided he no longer needs a bobber to fish, he is too cool for all that.  Mason mastered his casting skills.  And they both managed to spend hours out on the boy with dying although it did a lot of snacks in order to make that happen.  I had an amazing time watching my boys develop their fishing skills and I enjoyed casting a line myself!    The fishing started out slow but we finally found "our honey hole" and we caught everything from Small Mouth Bass to Perch to Northerns!

Another thing that was a surprise to me this weekend was the lack of cell service.  And by lack of I mean I had absolutely NONE!  No Phone, No Internet, No Television for a whole 3 days and it was amazing.  This really caused me to disconnect and just enjoy my time with the ones I love.  Of course I still had my camera and I was able to take plenty of pictures.

This next picture is one that makes me smile every time I look at it.  I feel so blessed to have met a man who treats me like I am his world, a man who wants to spend time with me and plan family vacations with me, a man who is always down for a fun adventure and most of all a man who loves my boys.  He was so incredibly patient with the boys when fishing, many times not being able to fish himself cause he was adding bait to a hook, untangling a line or changing lures.  And then this next picture happened and it just made me sit back and smile.  We were cruising at "no wake" speed down the river for our next fishing adventure and Mason crawled up by Clint and they just chatted and hung out like lifelong buddies.  Mason has quite the bond with Clint and I think the feeling just might be mutual!  And Colton has also shown that he trusts Clint and enjoys being around him.  I am one lucky girl, feeling blessed.

St Paul Saints Baseball

A couple weekends ago we took the boys to a Saints game and we had a great time. Clint had mentioned that he had never been to a Saints game so I went online and found some good seats and for an added bonus it was Star Wars Night!  The Saints won 18-7 which of course made it just that much better and the weather was perfect for a Saturday night in May as well, we got lucky with that.  Here are a few pics from our night of baseball fun!

Webelo Woods Camp

So a couple weekends ago Colton and I headed off to Cub Scout camp again.  However this time it was different.  This camp is called Webelo Woods and it is a camp to give the cub scouts (all 4th graders at this camp, all Webelo Ranked) a taste of what it is like to camp when you become a boy scout.  Parents still get to go with but the boys don't tent with their parents but instead they set up their own tents and share that tent with another scout.  Colton was very excited about this however when it came to bed time he had a minor meltdown and ended up in my tent.  He cried cause he was disappointed in himself but it wasn't worth stressing him out over so we just made some moves and life went on.  Saturday the boys went off with the older boy scouts while the parents were taken on a beautiful 2.5 mile hike around camp.  Colton had so much fun being so independent.  The boys were in charge of making their own meals (although they did still have a little help from the Troop Master)!   We ate like kings, enjoyed many laughs and had an absolutely great time.  The only draw back was the temps, it was a chilly weekend.  We woke up to 31 degrees and frost covered grounds on Sunday morning but we didn't let the cold keep us from a good time!

Every time you go to camp it is expected that the boys do a service project.  This camp they planted trees, between about 30 cub scouts they planted close to 100 White Pine Spruce Trees.  Very proud of our cub scouts, way to give back boys!

It's Baseball Season!

My favorite season is upon us, Baseball Season.  School year is winding down, summer is right around the corner and now we have baseball a few nights a week to keep us busy!  But there is one change this year, it is not longer all about Colton because Mason started Tee Ball this year!  Mason has been the last 5 baseball seasons at the field watching his big brother but now it is his turn to be a player.  The boys both had a game tonight, yes there are several nights this season where I need to be in two places at once but thankfully I have the best family ever and they are making sure to show up on double header nights so that both boys have a cheering section.  Before heading out for the games tonight I decided to snap a few pictures of my favorite players.  I love these two boys and look forward to spending several nights a week at the fields watching them!
