This past weekend we took a mini vacation to the North Shore! Frankie and I spent a few days in Duluth on our honeymoon and here we are 5 years later already so we thought it would be fun to back and to take our son with us! We had an awesome time! The weather was perfect and it was early enough in the summer that it wasn't crazy with tourists! We left early Friday morning and we arrived at Goosberry Falls State Park around noon. I love this place, it is beautiful (one of Minnesota's little hidden secrets). Colton had to much fun climbing on rocks and dipping his feet in the water. Here are a few pics from Gooseberry:
Our next stop for the day was the Split Rock Lighthouse! We got to climb up to the top of the light house... Colton though that was pretty cool. And then we decided to take the trail down to the lakeside. I didn't know that this trail consisted of several hundreds steps!! Needless to say we made it down to the water and we needed to rest for quite some time! And we did not take the stairs back up to the the lighthouse... we took some side trails that weren't straight up!
Colton was so tired after playing all day at Gooseberry and the Lighthouse! He feel alseep in about 3 minutes in the car. So we headed back to the hotel, had some dinner and then we spent the rest of the night in the pool. We were all so tired by the end of the day, I think we were all sleeping by 9:30!
Saturday morning we headed to Amnicon Falls State Park in Superior, WI. The park was beautiful. We did some hiking and of course took way more pictures than anyone should! Colton is absolutely facisnated by waterfalls... and he has no fear, I think he would jump right over the edge if we weren't holding on to him. After the falls we headed back into to Duluth to tour the William A Irvin. Colton was so excited to go on the big ship but he was not very thrilled about the guided tour. He prefers to do things on his own terms... but we all made it through the 45 minute tour. After that we headed down to Canal park to hang on the beach for a while and play on the playground! We were very tired after all that fresh air so we headed back to the hotel to clean up and relax for a while. That night we ate at Hell's Kitchen - which I would not recommend. The food was okay but not as good as we were expecting! Here are some pictures from Amnicon Falls State Park and the William A Irvin Ship. We had such a good time and we hope to make this little triop an annual adventure!
It looks like you had a blast! It looks gorgeous up there!
